How to read this, and what to map
Green shapes and dots are the City's gardens (raster layer); coloured
dots flag the gaps. Click a row to outline it on the map, then press
O to open it on openstreetmap.org or I in the iD
editor.
Treat the City's outline as a hint, not a trace. Many
footprints are a single bed — the median is about 230 m²
— and the layer has not been redrawn since mid-2025. Map what is on
the ground or in current imagery: usually leisure=garden +
garden:type=community around the whole plot area, with the
name on the sign.
A garden counts as mapped when any OSM leisure=garden,
landuse=allotments or landuse=orchard lies
within 25 m of its outline (or of its roster point when the
City has drawn no outline). Each OSM garden is matched to at most one
City garden, so two City gardens side by side need two OSM gardens.
Missing: nothing near the outline.
Point only: nothing near, and the City has no outline
either — the newest gardens; find them on the ground.
Untyped: matched to a plain leisure=garden;
check it is the community garden, then add
garden:type=community.
Unnamed / name mismatch: the OSM garden
has no name, or another one.
Names are the City's ALL CAPS roster names, title-cased here; check the
sign before copying one. Pollinator patches are on the
City's roster too, but OpenStreetMap has no settled tag for a pollinator
garden, so they are listed (off by default) and never counted as gaps.
